The hottest new rage in workouts is kettlebell workouts. Kettlebells mostly resemble a canon ball with a handle attached. However, don’t be fooled by their small size because they pack a powerful punch! They come in different weights to accommodate different individuals and fitness levels. Since I was attending a distance learning university, I wasn’t walking around campus or getting much physical exercise, so I decided I would see what the fuss was about and give a kettlebell workout a try to get myself back into shape.
I went to the store and bought a couple kettlebells in varying weights and went home to give them a try. I found a few workout routines online and decided I would see how they were. I followed a couple workout videos to get a feel for how to use them. Most of the workouts involve exercises that require you to swing the kettlebell, which works many muscles in your body. My particular workout had me do pushups, twists, swings, squats and sit-ups. I was sweating profusely by the end of it, and have been hooked ever since!
There are many different benefits to kettlebell workouts. Kettlebells are great because they can be done anywhere at any time, and they don’t require much room and no equipment beyond themselves. In comparison to other workout machines and tools, kettlebells are rather inexpensive and affordable. They are also very portable and storable. You can take them on the road with you for an anywhere workout, like in a hotel room or at a friend’s house.
Many people choose to replace all of their other workout equipment because they have found that kettlebells have a great versatility that can accomplish the results that often require multiple machines and pieces of equipment. Thus, it can save people a lot of money because you don’t need anything else or even a gym membership!
The drawbacks of kettlebells are few, but some do exist. Because of the exercises often associated with kettlebells, it is easy to be injured. Most common are lower back and shoulder injuries. However, with proper form and education, it is a very safe and effective workout. Another drawback is that because kettlebells remain at a fixed weight, it is impossible to adjust the weight and difficulty. Many people buy several kettlebells in differing weights in order to be able to adjust their workout to add more intensity,weight, etc.
Despite a couple drawbacks that are easily avoided, working out with kettlebells is a fantastic way to get fit.
